BAZAAR DAYS

So I was cruising the party pics of New York Social Diary and what do I see but my former boss from Harper's Bazaar, Nicole Fritton, pictured on the left. In the center is Anamaria Wilson, also from Bazaar, who, in my opinion, had the best office style.

So Nicole is actually the big, big boss--the market/fashion director. Pretty awesome that I shared an office space with her for 4 months.
She looks amazing, so I just had to post.

LAZY SATURDAY.

After moving and vacay-ing and a brief sickness in the space of 2 weeks, I felt pretty damn well entitled to a 12 hours-night's sleep and not getting up until noon today. And then I got all 60s gumshoe glam in my new (secondhand) leopard swing coat and headed to the Family Dollar (twice, actually) for some iced tea, lightbulbs (CFLs), and organizational tools (desperately needed).

Then I took an hour or so break from unpacking my house (stilllll not done) (art still on floor) (#whoops) to sit in the sun and read some of my book--currently Ishmael, one of those books that changes your life. It's OK, but as an aging philosophy phenom, the ideas aren't so mind-blowing. But if you are young and fresh, I very much recommend it.
Anyway, I was having a (philosophical) moment in the park, as I am prone to do these days, when a tiny 8 year old (and I'm guesstimating here) excused herself to ask me if I'd like a flower. How sweet! And then she handed me this lovely single pink coral tulip. And all was right in the world and nothing was wrong.

In this very congested, non-gardeny area of Brooklyn where I now reside, I can only imagine where she plucked it from.

I LEFT MY BLOG IN THE DUST

and headed for the sunnier skies of my hometown, Baton Rouge. After months of frigid winter temps, running around footloose and fancy free felt oh so right.

First up, a crawfish boil that extended long into the night:

The spiciest artichokes ever.

So you dump a batch of boiled crawfish and veggies onto the newspaper and then eat the heck out of them. Nothing better than good friends and good food.

Hiking in Tunica, MS:

It's either TOMS or no shoes at all in these parts. Yep--I hiked all day, barefoot.

The first of several waterfalls. Unfortunately, I sort of stopped taking pictures at this point and focused on how amazing the scenery was.

My friend Paul took this one.

My favorite part of the trip was a 2 hour bike ride just before my flight back to NYC. I could have ridden all day! I mean, I really really wanted to.

Wisteria everywhere, smells amaaaaazing.

The Mighty Mississippi

Getting misted at the golf course.

I can't believe this is someone's front yard.

Cypress "knees"

Wild wisteria taking over even wilder azalea bushes.

Quaint tree-lined lanes.

Maybe I'm biased, but the fabulousness of New York doesn't have anything on this. Four days were not enough to take in all this loveliness.

I'll get back to fashion soon enough.

SADDLE SHOES AND DESPERATION

Let me summarize this weekend for you:

I can't stand the rain. Oh it is miserably rainy here in NYC during this very busy week of mine-- priming and painting my new place in BushWACK Brooklyn, packing and moving to said new place, and getting ready for my immediate post-moving departure for a Big Louisiana Vacay where I will get to see my friends, family, and hot sunshine that I miss so dearly (it's been 8 months and my how I have grown!).

Oh and in my free time I do this thing where they pay me money to sell and clean and know about vintage things. It's sort of like a full time job but not nearly as awful because we have a nosh box filled with Reese's and Rolos.

So yeah, I've basically been wearing a duffel coat with a red 3/4 sleeve raincoat on top and getting sopping wet anyway. I did attempt to wear this out the other night. Well, I did wear it, but my attempt at meeting up with some friends didn't work out so well. I'm too tired and wet to have friends right now.

DON'T YOU WANNA JUMP AROUND AND BE AS DARLING AS LOU?

I'm a firm believer that the French have the best style, the best music and the best philosophy. It's all about the Joie de Vivre.

YOU ARE CORDIALLY INVITED....

to Blog Birthday #2! I am not exactly sure where or when that will occur, but you can bet your bottom dollar that Fernando will be there.

I honestly can't believe it. Two years ago, I was sitting on the wooden floors of my large two-story townhouse in Baton Rouge Louisiana, yes LOUISIANA, scribbling out some disorganized thoughts (which later in the evening became blog post numero uno, denim on denim whaaa whaaa), made even more disorganized by my scrawling handwriting and inability to properly map out spacing on paper (not an atypical occurrence)....... and now here I am blogging in NEW YORK em-effin CITY, sitting in a tiny, albeit cozy, apartment, having dipped my toes into the fashion scene at Harper's Bazaar and Three Fleur de Lys (plus offering some minor assistance in styling gigs), enjoying the glittery snowstorms but still searching for sunshine, planning a vintage cocktail dress and bridal sale event, and generally trying to catch a break.

When all is said and done, however, I am kind of living the dream.

Thank you.
