DESTRUCTO

Question:
What do you wear if the photo shoot for the magazine you are working on is an all day outdoor affair and it's already a spicy 80 degrees in your native land??

Answer:

Stop. Wait. Hold up a minute. What's this Blair Waldorf shenanigans going on in mah hairs?

EXTREME CLOSE-UP of the latest addition to my accessories wardrobe. This giant gaudfest of a headband has just enough Marc Jacobsy kitsch to make it awesomely bad in the good way.

Love Culture headband, vintage 80s silk top, American Eagle shorts, Dolce Vita flats

MARCH SECOND TWO THOUSAND EIGHT

AAAAAahhhhhhhhhhhhHHHHHHH..... somehow I missed my own blog birthday! It was 367 days ago that on a particularly distracting night, I couldn't get a story idea out of my brain. So I blurt it all out in the form of a Microsoft Word document freeing myself from whatever the opposite of writer's block is; writer's flow I suppose. And then, and I really don't remember where I got the idea from, I published it to blogger. I knew NOTHING about blogging WHATSOEVER and I didn't even plan on sharing it with anyone. I don't think I had ever even viewed a blog before save for my friends' on myspace.

Well, I did share it with two people, my sister and her boyfriend. You know like hey guys I respect you, what do you think about this? Next thing I know it's blasted all over myspace and facebook. Thanks guys.

No seriously, thank you. Ashford Gets Dressed was born a year ago, with no vision or destination in mind. In fact, I pretty much ignored it for 6+ months, letting the weedy blogosphere swallow it whole. I had no idea what I was supposed to do with this thing, what it was for, or if I liked it. Figuring it out has been a struggle and a labor of love (seriously, these things take up wayyyy more time than you would think). I'm still working on it. Bear with me. One day this half-blown dandelion will be a field of poppies glowing brilliantly in the sun.

I want to thank you all for your support, comments (ugly and beautiful) and suggestions. Although I get embarrassed when people (usually drunk ones) yell "HEYYYY I READ YOUR BLOGGGG" in my ear, it truly makes my heart all warm and gooey. Not only that, having an audience pushes me to learn more, do more, grow more. I am a more complete person.

From my whole heart, I would like to thank each and every one of you, near and far, for being a part of my virtual and real life. To another year!

NOT JOKING

Speaking of Missoni, Angela totally killed it for Fall '09 RTW. The theme? Wrap yourself in incredibly snuggly knits from head to floor.

I especially love the leggings and the little banded ankle pants that come in the iconic zigzag knit. Oh, and the luxe color palette: blushy peach, light blue, taupe, nude, gray.

I have an unnatural aversion to blue because I think it's boring, but the pops of sky and cerulean sprinkled throughout the collection are anything but predictable.

A ready-to-wear collection that is actually ready to wear? I imagine Missoni will do quite well this year, despite the oh noes! worldwide economic apocalypse.

ITALIANS DO IT BETTER

I'm obsessed with the new Missoni campaign shot by Steven Miesel. Please excuse the poor image quality for these things were hard to come by! I also couldn't find the particular one I was looking for (which includes some amazing Marilyn style bathing beauty swimsuits) but these are pretty much awesomeness as well.

I would ask when Missoni became so gorgeous, but since they've been making state of the art knitwear since the beginning of time, I kind of have to assume it's me who has changed.
Get with the times girlfrandddd.

TANOREXIA

My girl Ana B. over at Seeing Pink Elephants (a fiesty little popculture, fashion, celebrity, entertainment, and all things cool blog) posted a piece on muppet icon Janice, lead guitarist of Electric Mayhem, who does indeed bear a striking resemblance to the uber tan fashion goddess Donatella Versace. It made me want to share my muppet face with you:

What's even better is that I used to do a richbitch Donatella impression. (Btw, richbitch is a real word according to blogger). I'm totally going as Donatella for Halloween this year -Add a superorange mystic tan, ridiculous blonde wig, and a sexy *little* dress with a neckline down to my bellybutton/hemline up to there and things will be so legit. It'll be a nice contrast to my Daria costume from this past year. Yeah, THAT Daria. La la laa la laaaaaa.

POST VALENTINES POST

I do hope you all had a lovely Valentines, perhaps due to the efforts of a lovely valentine of your own!

I pretty much missed the whole day working on a top-secret photo shoot. Did I ever mention that I landed a totally killer position at a brand new mag? Well I did, and I'm super excited about working on our first issue which drops in April. Details on that later.

The photo shoot was completely e x h a u s t i n g, but I managed to pull myself together enough to head out to the Spanish Moon for the Heartthrob launch party. From what I could gather, Heartthrob involves dudes with skateboards. Note that if I'm drinking Red Bull + anything, it means I've had the looooooonngest day and that I'm 1 second away from getting crunk, 2 seconds away from going beddy-bye.

I was all valentine-less, but no worries. My superawesome grandparents had me covered. On Sunday they totally surprised me with a divine box of chocolates.

This is no ordinary box of chocolates, for I am no ordinary girl. It's the Soho artist series from Whitman's. My grandmother said she knew she had to get it when she saw the painterly designs of each piece.

Awwww. I love it when people just get it.
